How the 1st coffee business event in Ukraine passed. Highlights
The first real coffee business event in Ukraine Blackfest Ukrainian Coffee Show 2018 was held at CEC Parkovy on November 30 and December 1.
Speaking in numbers, at BlackFest:
On the territory of Expo the most modern equipment was presented. Here you could see a unique neighborhood of more than 100 different types of coffee makers. Right at the event, roasters roasted coffee beans from around the world real-time so the territory was full of the aroma of freshly roasted and brewed coffee. More than 200 varieties of coffee were presented on stands and in the cupping zone. These were blends of Ukrainian and Italian roasters and monosorts that you can win world championships with.
In addition, at BlackFest you could see numerous accessories for alternative preparation of beverages, many types of tea and aromatic herbal mixtures, thermoses and kettles for brewing.
In addition to the stands of coffee companies and cafes, there were also several bars in the Expo area preparing cocktails with coffee.
The lecture program covered all the aspects of the coffee industry from the process of selecting and roasting grains to opening your own coffee house. The list of world experts who shared their successful cases included
Sari Haavisto, founder of Populus Coffee (Berlin, Germany); Mathieu Theis, co-founder of MAME specialty coffee; Rubens Gardelli, WCE World Coffee Roasting Champion, winner of the WCE Italy Coffee Roasting Championship 2017 (1st place).
Wonderful atmosphere reigned at the event. Everyone was among “their” people. Guests smiled at each other, coffee makers made excellent coffee and the baristas created unsurpassed author’s masterpieces which may soon be served in the best cafes in the world. By the way, about the winners.
As part of the BlackFest 2018, two leading Ukrainian barista championships were held — the Ukrainian Barista Championship and the Ukrainian Brewers Cup. Pavlo Spitsyn, the representative of Lion Coffee, won the classic tournament, and Olexiy Lutsenko from Command Coffee won the hand-brew tournament. Guys will represent Ukraine at the international championship in Boston (USA).
BlackFest 2019 will take place on November 29-30, 2019.
